I enjoyed the first and third sections however felt that the middle part of the book let it down.

I struggled through every page I did manage to read and then, after putting it on pause, I had no desire to go back to it.
Besides A Christmas Carol, I had never read any Dickens novels so didn’t know what to expect when I opened this book for my English module this semester. I really enjoyed it—Dickens’ writing is so detailed & descriptive that the story comes alive and you feel swept up into an interesting world of escaped convicts, mysterious benefactors, and a boy trying to find his place in the world. I found Great Expectations to still be relevant today as a bildungsroman.

Not at all what I had expected, which is clearly ironic right?
I imagined this was a classic romance, but the interpretation of the ending is really up to the reader in my opinion. For me, I'm still not sure of how it ended because you could read into the last sentence two very different ways.
But it's well written and very visual in painting pictures for the reader.
