“You can’t control the bad things that happen to you. All you can do is decide how much of you you’re going to let them take.”

We met Sloan and her fiancé in the first book of this series. When the unspeakable happened, Sloan was adrift, shutting down, and pushing away help from her friends. Now two years later, on the way to an appointment, a dog running loose in traffic might have just saved her life. After two weeks with Tucker, said runaway, she’s determined to keep him and make him hers, whoever let him run loose doesn’t deserve him. Tucker’s owner finally reaches out, explains his situation, and promises that he will retrieve his lost pup, and wants to take her to dinner as a way of apology and to meet this wonderful woman to whom he’s been talking.

This book helped me. Its kept me present in a time of trial, and if you have a thought of reading Abby Jimenez, this would be a great series to start with.

The first half. Call me a big old mush but I feel like fate is real. The dog. The way they found each other, especially Sloan, navigating her grief. I do realize there was a lot of codependency, and I do realize it’s unhealthy, but I also realize I’m so codependent so it was kinda relatable lol. You know when everything is going so perfect at 60%, what the heck could happen? Well, it happened. And it happened ALL THE WAY TIL THE END. the reason this wasn’t a full 5 stars for me, is the way the ups/down happened for so long, and yes sometimes that is real life. And then the ending was SO SUDDEN?
I felt so bad for Lola. I felt so bad for Sloan. I felt so heart broken for Jason. She definitely should’ve made him work a little harder after upturning her entire life. I wanted more good in between the ending & epilogue.

Following the aftermath of The Friend Zone, Kirsten’s best friend, Sloan is still reeling and grieving Brandon’s death two years later. Unexpectedly, Sloan almost runs over a dog who then decides to jump through her sunroof into her car. When she contacts the dog’s owner, she realizes that not only does she know him, but he is her favorite singer who quickly changes her life forever.

This book dragged a lot for me but I definitely I enjoyed it more than The Friend Zone. One word: dramatic!! If you don’t like third-act breakups and constant miscommunication, this one may not be for you. Even I struggled enjoying the book because of the stress the characters were giving me lol. However, it was heartwarming to finally see Sloan recover from the grief of losing Brandon and finding love again. Their meet-cute was everything!! Though it was an emotional ride, I was happy for Sloan that Jason was very empathetic and honored Brandon with her. The constant miscommunication was very frustrating though and especially the way Jason went about it. I think some aspects of the book were also very unrealistic especially with some of Sloan’s decisions, but I’m just glad everything worked out in the end.

Overall, this book was really heartwarming and sweet! All of the characters were complex, making their development at the end really rewarding.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t like third-act breakups. There are two of them!
Anyone who enjoys a lighthearted yet emotional romance would love this book!

I really enjoyed this book! I was hesitant to start this book because of how we met this character in the previous book, but the subject matter was dealt with very well. I loved both of our characters, and the plot that supported them. Overall, definitely a recommend!

I usually don't like celebrity romances with the paparazzi/tabloid plot/trial that cause a third act breakup but I really enjoyed this book. Jason was sooooo sweet and patient with Sloane, it was so cute. I had been wanting her story since The Friend Zone and glad she got her happy ever after. I loved that each chapter started with a song. I loved this author's take on grief. Those grieving moments were done in a beautiful way.
