Isabel Allende

4.21 AVERAGE

I’ve now read Isabel Allende’s first novel published and her latest. I enjoy how she writes historical fiction revolved around true events but gives her own spin on them. However she doesn’t glamorize nor make the reader forget there’s truth behind her inspiration and therefore not everything has a happy ending because it would be untrue to try to rewrite the struggles people faced in the past. But she leaves the reader with a sense of hope for her characters. Which the same could be said for people who endured these historic events.

"...on the date stipulated by law the left calmly came to power. And on that date the right began to stockpile hatred."

An eerily familiar turn of events. The chaotic magical realism genre continues to entrance me.

What an beautiful book. Spanning multiple generations of a family with allusions to the political climate of Chile. Its depth and breadth are incredible.

challenging slow-paced

This boom was really hard to get through. And not because of the controversial content.
