The stories about Aunt Mary Maria and the mean friends that Anne’s children encountered was tiring and frustrating. It was nice to read about her children and who they are but I missed Anne and Gilbert. The summary on the back of the book is a little misleading because the situation between Anne and Gilbert didn’t even happen until the last chapter or so. I found myself forcing myself to finish this book vs. moving forward because I was enjoying it.
slow-paced

Lovely snapshots of the family as they grow. I most enjoy the parts from Anne’s point of view, however, and wish we got more of that. She’s fading into a secondary character in her own book.

Anne was cute and charming when she was little. Now these book either ignore her entirely (mostly about her children) or make her feel like a very immature 40 year old.

It honestly took me over a year to get through this one, picking it up and putting it down. Almost every chapter was a self-contained vignette about one of the kiddies, so that didn't mar the reading experience much. The stories were as always well told and full of interesting characters. I missed Anne, though.
