Alright alright I’ll admit it. I was wrong. I actually enjoyed this book quite a lot, even though I thought I wouldn’t! Anne has her six children, she’s a great mother, she writes for the paper, and is genuinely happy. That’s all that matters, honestly and I’m sorry for being so cynical about it in my review of the previous book in the series. At the beginning of the book when Diana and Anne are hanging out, Diana is said to be 155 pounds and is called fat. Girl WHAT?? If Diana is fat at 155 pounds then I must be a fucking planet. ONE-HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE POUNDS!!! Anyway, moving on. Anne is described over and over to be slim, not skinny, but girl had SIX KIDS (not including poor Joyce)!! There’s just no way she wouldn’t have gained a little weight. Gilbert pissed me tf off in this gd book. You’re telling me you can’t stand up to your shitty ass relative and kick her sorry-ass out but you can bust in your poor wife 7 times? Right, sure dude. SPEAKING of not standing up to people or standing up for his wife, near the end of the book, poor Anne feels insecure and undervalued for all the hard work she does raising her kids and managing her home. She feels unlovable and like Gilbert is falling out of love with her. HE EVEN FORGETS THEIR ANNIVERSARY!These feelings are made worse by Gilbert deciding they’re going to hang out with his old fling, Christine. What. A. CUNT! She constantly drags Anne down and Gilbert doesn’t say shit to defend her or his family. Piece of shit. It’s discovered later that Gilbert didn’t forget their anniversary, but was distracted by the health of one of his patients. Additionally, the gift he had gotten Anne arrived late. That’s fine and dandy and everything, but maybe communicate that to her? Instead of making her think you forgot DUMBASS!!! Like go pick some damn wildflowers for her and write her a lovely letter expressing your love and her beauty or some shit. Anne is a simple lady who likes romantic gestures!! FIGURE IT TF OUT!! Anyway, moving on to a better topic, Anne’s children (not Jem, he’s a little shit) are really sweet and entertaining. I’m excited to read Rainbow Valley next, because I think we will be focusing on their perspective more.

Anne's children have just as many fun escapades as Anne does...and I love how at the end, Anne and Gilbert reaffirm their love.
My kids and I enjoyed this lovely continuation of the Anne series. Won't be of any interest to those who haven't read the previous books but for those who have, it's fun to see the next generation emerge and grow. Only thing I could have done without are the last two chapters (not really a spoiler, just a heads up) in which Anne becomes jealous of an ex-girlfriend of Gilbert's and reflects on her own desirability, the stability of their marriage, etc. That seemed oddly grown up in tone for a book that spent the first 39 chapters discussing the funny and innocent escapades of five year old and tweens.
