Read for the nostalgia and wow what a different world we live in than we did when I was 12. I can’t believe how little regard the authors show for the cultures they borrow from. If you just wanna make shit up, don’t mention real cultures and peoples? Honestly might keep reading for the mems

I definitely have a biased view of this book because I have a nostalgic tie to it. This was my absolute favorite series growing up (middles school-early high school) and I'm re-reading it as a 25 year old woman.
I don't think it's the greatest book I've ever read nor my favorite anymore. But I do has a place in my heart for these characters and this story.
It's a definite YA read, but I really enjoy the plot and the characters and still love it and wish there were an adult version maybe at the college age of characters not high school. Either way I still enjoy it.
There are some cringey parts and some writing is very teen focused in a cringe way to me now, but I see past it for the nostalgia and the plot that I know is developing. I'm interested to see how I feel throughout the series and wonder if some of the cheesy parts stay or decrease river time as the characters develops more, and if we get a little more in depth into topics and plots as this first book flies through things fast and I feel like we could've soaked up a moment longer.

I read this series back in middle school but, being totally honest, I don’t remember like any of the main storyline. I’m echoing what a lot of other reviews have said and add my own: this didn’t age well at all lmfao. You can tell that when it was written and published back in 2007 a lot of the terms and thoughts were what was popular to use back then which we do not use now.
But still overall this was entertaining. I mean I finished it in two days with minimal eye rolling LOL. You can tell that it’s a teenager telling the story through her own eyes. The narrative is a bit juvenile and cringeworthy at times but again, the FMC is 16 and this was written 18 years ago. 🤣
I will be continuing with the series! Would I recommend it? Potentially. A lot of us probably read these back in our youth so the nostalgia factor does hit different but this is not a masterpiece in any sense of the word.

Jeg startede med at læse den danske udgave, men skiftede til den engelske da jeg kunne få fat i den i fysisk form. Og hold da op en forskel. Tellerup har valgt at give næsten alle karaktererne nye navne så det var super forvirrende. Stevie Rae er f.eks. blevet til Mary Ann og jeg ved ikke lige i hvilken verden det nogensinde kan hænge sammen. Historien i sig selv er sådan set god nok, som en slags Harry Potter bare med vampyrer, shaming og ultra kliché fyldte og flade karakterer. Man bliver dog virkelig træt af hovedpersonen der enten taler ned eller shamer både sig selv og alle omkring sig, eller sætter dem op på en gudelignende piedestal. Det mest positive er den nogenlunde interessante vampyr lore der er mere end kraftigt inspireret af Wicca og så at den er utroligt hurtigt og let læst.
