3.5 stars. I really liked the organic way these two fell for each other and it was obvious why. However the second half felt like it was missing something. I don't know exactly what it is. And I agree with the others: the book needs some good editing.

"love isn’t something that obeys your instructions and comes neatly packaged. It’s a wee bit wild and wilful. You don’t let yourself love, you just love.”

The Summer of Us was everything I wanted in a book at the moment. Mild enemies to lovers plot with some angst thrown in, and a GFY cherry on top. There were sickly sweet parts and steamy scenes, butt virgin anyone? The relationship played out pretty organically in my opinion as it didn't start off with love at first sight banging. Matty and Johnny became friends first. They enjoyed each others company. Then that bond turned into more. We get the big miscommunication, but the epilogue is truly adorable with humor thrown in like the rest of the book.

John and Matt have stolen my heart

While I wouldn't specifically categorize this as an enemies to lovers because the dislike for each other was so shortlived, it's not far off... The two didn't like one another at the beginning of this book, but a trip to France, where they must co-habitate brings them to a quick friendship.
This is definitely a straight to gay romance, considering John is a recently divorced man who is trying to win back his ex wife. I
I adore romances where jealous exes are thrown into the mix to shake things up and this doesn't disappoint considering an ex of each is thrown in.
I love Lily Morton, but I haven't read any of her m/f romances in the series. Now I really want to because I know I will call in love with Charlie, Sid and Bram's stories... So perhaps that will be next in my tbr. But for now, I will digest this beautiful love story. I will cherish Johnny and Marty's story for a very long time.

The story may have been okay, but the writing was pretty bad. Hard to believe that this is the same Lily Morton that wrote Rule Breaker.

4⭐️ Cute, low-angst demisexual/GFY story.

Though well-written and sweet, I could tell this was one of the author’s earliest works because it wasn’t nearly as polished as her current books. I didn’t care about Matt and John nearly as much as the characters in her other books. They didn’t stand out enough for me.
