I think in my adult life, this my first poetry book I have read. That been said, I quite enjoyed the poems, some really touched me and made me tear up. Some were straightforward on what the author wanted to point. For me this was a solid first poetry so I'm proud to branch out of my comfort zone.

Unfortunately a lot of Kaur's poetry does not resonate with me. Some are quite sweet, but in most I fail so see the originality. To me they mostly seem to appeal to a lot of people because most people have experienced heartbreak at some point. But poem after poem about missing someone, I grew bored. Few of them seemed to express something original, something gripping, something illuminating about heartbreak. Quite often, I felt like I was simply reading a long sentence, chopped into the format of a poem.

I have never read Kaur’s poetry before, but I was hoping it would bring me back to that era of tumblr posts with long hashtags and simple line drawings to accompany the poetry, and it certainly gave me that.
I really loved that Kaur did the illustrations as well, and they really added to the collection.
I really enjoyed the disparate sections, all related to the plant life cycle.
The metaphors, the simplicity of her poems was so delicious.
If you like poetry and haven’t read this yet like I hadn’t, I certainly recommend it.
