This was a one sitting kinda book. My first poetry book of this kind. It was good. I personally thought that the illustrations kinda took me out of it. But that’s just personal preference. It was very captivating the way that she discussed being an immigrant daughter, and recognizing the life that her parents gave up for her.

Right now I have finished reading it, and I am ... I mean I have so many mixed feelings, the truth was I did not have high expectations, I was just waiting for poetry, some nice phrases, that would be all. However I have come across a quite sensitive work, I recommend it 100%

A huge improvement from her first collection of poems (which consisted of a lot of disconnected thoughts and phrases). Kaur explored a wider range of topics in this collection including then immigrant experience, feminist sisterhood. She also carried through her imagery more this time throughout the whole poem as well which contributed to a greater sense of completion for the poem and a more impactful message.
