What an amazing story of a beloved character from the original trilogy.

It is pretty good for a first issue. Also, Fitchner is one of my favorite characters from the Red Rising trilogy, so seeing him here in his full power is very exciting

Accidentally spoiled a bit of Morning Star by reading this, but that's fine.

Overall pretty okay. Gave us some background to Ares and the origins of the Sons of Ares. Art was interesting, but not 100% my cup of tea.

I'll probably continue the series, though, as with the novels, I wish we learned more about the other colours. This would have been a perfect place to do that and it wasn't really strong here.

I received a digital copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I'm a love reading comic books and I love reading Pierce Brown – so why am I only rating this 3 stars? First off, the art. It's not bad per se, but the sketchy style only works for some stories. Take [b:Wytches, Volume 1|25243735|Wytches, Volume 1|Scott Snyder|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1434963600s/25243735.jpg|44963177] for example. The out of the lines, half drawn style works because we're dealing with unknown monsters who do leap out of the lines of reality. It just doesn't work when you're trying to talk politics. Because that's what this is. It's a fantastical political revolution and you need to be able to get a sense of the people involved for it to have an impact.

Nonetheless, the story itself was rather good. It was interesting to discover the background of some of our favourite characters. I didn't feel as attached to the characters as I did in the prose, but it was a nice little prequel. If you're a fan of [a:Pierce Brown|6474348|Pierce Brown|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1417558860p2/6474348.jpg] and his Red Rising series, this is a brilliant addition to the world. If you're just dipping into his universe, I suggest starting with [b:Red Rising|27913065|Red Rising (Trilogie Red Rising #1)|Pierce Brown|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1457188883s/27913065.jpg|21580644] first.

The background noise in the audiobook was super distracting. I loved the Red Rising series, but this one couldn't hold my attention.

Novela gráfica muy muy cortita sobre Los hijos de Ares y sus comienzos. Quien haya leído los libros de Amanecer rojo sabrá sobre qué personaje trata.

A promising volume to what I feel will be a great prequel series. This provides a back story to one of the characters in Red Rising and in true Brown fashion it was dark, bloody, and violent with a good dose of heartstring-tugging scenes. It was nice to finally see a visual representation of the world this is set in and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

This was not what I was expecting at all. I'm not a big comic reader but the idea behind this really drew me in. I had to read through it a couple times before I figured out how the story was being told. It was done quite well, but at the same time there didn't seem to be a whole lot there. It's part one of six, so I'm hoping there's a lot more beef in the upcoming editions.

For big fans of the Red Rising world (which I am), it was a little look into how the Sons of Ares started. You get this story from reading the books, but it's told in retrospect, whereas the comic tells it in more detail as it occurs. I'll keep going so I can see how it all plays out, but I'm not sure how I feel about this overall yet.
