Ebony Flowers

I loved this book! The style felt familiar, and when I found out Flowers studied at UW-Madison and likely with Lynda Barry I understood why. This is a great slice of life book- little vignettes about silly, sentimental, boring, difficult, delightful, depressing, incredible everyday life of Black women. Highly recommend.

I liked the stories, but it was a bit disjointed. I wanted that part to be clearer. and the art was sometimes difficult to read. Overall it was a cool collection!

Really lovely; it's fascinating and takes such care with its characters.

The short stories exploring life, family, culture and racism mostly through hair (or while doing hair). I'm not overly fond of the busy drawing style, I must admit.

I didn't connect to this one as much as I thought I would. It was good, but not what I thought it was going to be.

Comics. Black lives. Hair.

Story: This collection contains 8 short stories of varying length featuring similar characters tied together with the theme of hair.

Language: Set in recent past, some stories featuring childhood and others adulthood, in US and South America. Drawn in black in white in a rather loose style, abstract in many places.

Characters: Most stories feature the same girl / woman across stages in her life, while others are about her sister, mother, aunts, grandmother and friends.

I liked a couple of stories but the rest of them just seemed like recycled versions of the same hair plot line. Its an easy to read book, so worth picking up and reading over a day or two.
