I've read a few books from the series and liked them enough. It took a few pages to get back on track, but soon I was reading and skimming through with practiced ease (the author spends way too much time on things that sometimes don't matter).
The plot is pretty much in her style, and it was a decent read that kept me engaged most of the time. The mystery is neither too complex nor straightforward. Thankfully, it doesn't have that 'twist' at the end.
Going back to familiar authors does give the breather one needs.

Solid entry in the Kinsey Milhone, with an ending that while not completely predicable, is one you still see coming. But it is Kinsey that keeps you coming back for more. Her voice is like yours, her reaction to the actions of others is also completely like yours. This series is kind of awesome.

Another wonderful Kinsey story! I love these books of this series! They just keep you guessing until the end! I read this as my " A Murder Mystery" book for the 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge! :)

And again, I'm racing through this series just as soon as I get my hands on them. This takes Kinsey out of Santa Theresa to a small town down the coast where a man who escaped from jail has been recaputured years on and is now protesting his innocence of the manslaughter he previously said he did. Kinsey's been hired by his parents to try and find the real killer, but what she finds in the town is a mass of buried secrets and resentments and a crowd of very unpleasant people.

Wow, it is amazing how much I have forgotten this series - and how much fun it is to rediscover it ... I really did not remember this one. Well plotted, lots of red herrings and possibilities. I am missing this author so much!

This book really captures all the bad things about small towns. It was suffocating to read and I'm glad it is over.

I didn't like the cold case plot all that much, it's probably my least favourite among the books I've read in the series so far.

This book starts off sloooow. It doesn't pick up until you're about 60% of the way through but by then, Kinsey is stuck at dead end after dead end and doesn't make sense of things until about 85% of the way through. The ending is quick and Kinsey's usual confrontation with the killer is built up with wrought tension and suspenseful as always.
