Bullet Review:

From someone who knows next to nothing about mythology, much less Norse mythology, this was a delightful read.

A great telling of the Norse myths with a twist. From the point of view of Loki, the trickster, the story from creation to Ragnarok shows how the gods could have prevented it all by accepting the scorned god Loki as one of them.

3.5 stars I would say. Joanne M. Harris gives a voice to Loki, but it's not a particular original voice. I was hoping that she would flesh him out, not simply build on the simpering, over-confident Loki that was given to us by Marvel Comics.

It was a fun, quick read that was enjoyable for some light reading. I definitely lol'd throughout.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Harris' Loki is snide, sneaky, vengeful and wonderful. She has taken the myths, and given them a whole new life, without stripping away any of the flavour or insanity that characterized them. She hasn't attempted to censor or re-write the mythology in a way that would make it more acceptable to the general populace - which is excellent, as the stories in the Gospel of Loki stand tall and unapologetic, buoyed by the insanity and snark of the voice of Loki.
A definite recommend.
