Matt is a decent fourteen year old protagonist who has just the right mix of cowardice and bravado, ignorance and goodness to keep him making blunders that lead to adventures and choices that lead to cool alliances.

The idea of the gate and the old ones is intriguing, and the setting in Peru with the Incas and condors and a load of odd characters keeps you engaged but...

This one is not as dark as the first, and not quite as interesting all round, even if it has moments and ends on a high note.

The mystery and ancient myths tied in were my favourite parts, but anything to do with ancient cultures and religions with an anthropologist focus always saddles my hobby horse.

Lastly, I have to mention that any novel written for teenage boys that includes a geographical exploration of Lake Titikaka has to be a hit in some way.

I loved Evil Star just as much as I loved Raven's Gate. It's essentially the perfect sequel to the previous book in the series.
I really like the fact that Horowitz gave us more of an insight to what Gwenda and Brian's life had been like since Matt had left their 'care'. I also love how Horowitz gave us a taste of what Matt's life had been like since he'd moved in with Richard and what his school life was like.

One of my favourite chapters of this books has got to be when Matt and Pedro met. I was rather surprised at the scenario in which Matt and Pedro met. however, I really liked it. I also love the scenes when Matt and Pedro are in their dream world and are talking. I also loved the conversation Pedro and Matt had through Sebastian's translating when Pedro said that he trusted Matt. I think that was the event that solidified Pedro and Matt's friendship. I'd recommend this to anyone who has already read the first book and anyone who is a fan of supernatural books.

uhm...didn't finish it. i was thinking it should be good easy book to read when i don't wanna think about anything, but it's just too easy for me. Sentences are so simple and characters are not believable, plus plot is kinda crappy. Maybe it's just because i'm too old for this...

Really enjoyed it. Although so far I prefer the first instalment of this series due to its creepy factor. However, this one had a different and welcome tone to it. Fasted paced, full of action but lacked a bit of suspense. Nice character development and interactions. It's gripped me enough to continue with this series.

Meh. It's annoying. Too much drama. I got bored and skipped a page or two (I never did this in my previous readings).

It turns out that Raven's Gate is not the only portal that needs to be closed and that Matt is not the only one who can close it. He soon meets Pedro, another gatekeeper that he has only seen in his dreams. Can they close the next gate before the Old Ones escape into the world?

Another exciting page-turner.
