I truly loved this book! The characters were relatable and so endearing with their flaws and hidden strengths. Another fantastic book by Amy E. Reichert.

My Review Of

The Optimist's Guide to Letting Go by Amy E. Reichert

If there is comfort food then this is what I call a comfort book. I read this book in a little over twenty-four hours. I have read all of  Amy E. Reichert's books and this latest one did not disappoint. I loved the foodie theme of the book that featured grilled cheese and brownies. Gina owns a food truck called Grilled G's while her increasingly distant and somewhat difficult daughter May is obsessed with making all kinds of brownies that sound fabulous. Gina has been recently widowed and that just completely devastated their once close knit family. Gina's mother Lorraine is a critical force to be reckoned with,  unfortunately Lorraine has her reasons for being this way and her own secrets and tale to tell. Gina just cannot get past the sudden death of  her husband but an unfortunate turn of events forces Gina , her sister , May and Lorraine to face truths and deal with a long buried family secret.

What a wonderful tale of mother's , daughters and the choices that they make for appearances or to keep their family safe and secure . This was a heartwarming story, like I said I call this one a "Comfort Book".This review was originally posted on My Fiction Obsession

Why did it take me forever to read a book by Amy? Is it weird to say that I think she might be my favorite author? Because I honestly feel like she is. I have one of her other books on my kindle to read and I can't wait to get to it.

Okay, time to review. I loved this book. Such complex characters, I wanted to hug everyone and make them chocolate chip cookies. The fact that Amy can make me dislike Lorraine in the beginning but have me liking by the end really speaks on her writing abilities. There were some twists that I didn't expect when it concerned the secret.

Lorraine is a very complex person, like I do feel bad for her and I think she's an okay mom, but the way she treated her girls, especially Gina was too much. Can I blame it on her time period? My grandmother was the same way, but not to the extent like Lorraine.

Vicky is one of my favorite characters. Even though she's the youngest I feel like she acts like a big sister to Gina. My only gripe with Vicky is her going behind her sister's back when it concerns May. May is every teenager plus adding on to the fact she lost her father. I do think she made some dumb decisions.

Gina and I are a like. We handle our grief the same way. Constantly doing things to keep our mind off the unpleasant. Her relationship with May in the beginning and middle weren't really good but by the end with good communication they improved into a relationship that they both wanted.

Gina owns a Grilled Cheese Food Truck called Grilled G's and after reading this I want to go have some grilled cheese, but from a food truck.

This book had me in tears many, many times. I really liked the style of writing and Ms. Reichert seamlessly flowed between characters, storylines and timeframes.
