Throughout, I found myself encapsulated within the narrative of trauma. From the camps of Auschwitz to the walled split-city of Berlin. Anna Stuart delved into the post-war political ventures of tearing families apart. Emotions constantly fluctuating resulting in page turning chapters.
I enjoyed the character relationships and the adaptations, sacrifices and commitment each one needed to survive. Whilst the description of Berlin’s split struck strong with my feelings. Getting me angry at the past events. Typical.
The main point that bugged me about this book was that it is promoted as the midwife’s story and her journey of reconnecting her family where as the whole book (bar a few chapters) are told but they children’s perspective and they themselves are finding eachother. Even tho they were enjoyable to read and see them grow, just missed the mark of expectation. I wanted more of the midwifery.

a little bit easier to read than the last book (the midwife of auchwitz), not as many stomach souring scenes, and you get to see the fate of two of the babies born in the first book during the aftermath of world war 2- when Berlin Germany was divided into 2.
Very touching WW2 historical fiction novel! I loved the characters in this book and how their lives intertwined and their stories played out throughout the book.
