“The MidWife of Berlin” shares the award of my favourite book of the year with “The MidWife of Auschwitz”.
This book was hard to put down and I was so sad that it ended. I was so invested in the lives of Kirsten, Olivia, and Ester. 10/10. Five stars.

Take a journey thru the past with this novel. It enlightened me on so much that I did not realize. Wow! The extremity of the control the communist had left me speechless. I was so ignorant to the Berlin Wall (Iron Curtain) until I read this book. It was very informative.
I cannot imagine what Ester and Filip went thru. After the atrocities at the concentration camps, they still can't catch a break. I just can't grasp a wall being built literally separating families for so many years. 😪
Take a journey thru the past and gain more knowledge on life in Berlin post WWII.

The Midwife of Berlin by Anna Stuart is a historical fiction and is a second book in the series. However, it can be read as a stand-alone book. Set in 1960's Germany, this book tells the story of a world that was divided. Is the illusion of normalcy in both these worlds a comfort, or is something else underneath?
Olivia and Kirsten, two young women, live in a divided Germany. One lives in the East and the other in the West. Then there's Ester, a survivor of Auschwitz who has lost a lot during the war. Both Olivia and Kirsten are trying to navigate this divided world, but they are in search of something.
This book tugs your heart. This book is about loss, finding them, figuring out our own identity, fighting the negative, and fighting for the right causes.
Thank you, Bookouture and Netgalley, for this book.

I was given an advanced readers copy from netgalley but this review is unbiased. This book was intriguing. I hadn’t read the first one (saw this one on netgalley before realizing it was a sequel) but i was still able to understand and read it as a standalone. At first it was hard to keep track of the characters. Reading about the communism and the government brainwashing was unbelievable. Yes this is fiction but still it seemed like it was well researched . I had no idea the government control was to this extent. At times this book was hard to put down, but it was a lot to absorb at once, so I would put it down so I could process everything. I liked the different personalities of the characters.
