This book is atmospheric and fun. The first half is definitely creepy. I saw the “twist”(?) coming a mile away but still enjoyed it.
My issue is that the main character struggles so much with blaming herself for everything that I got extremely annoyed and tired of it very fast. I understand it’s a central part of the book, but that aspect wasn’t for me.

I had high expectations for this book, anticipating a 5-star read, but I was left somewhat disappointed.
The very beginning was interesting and gripping, but shortly after that, the story started to drag until about the 50% mark. Although it picked up again and became quite engaging, the ending ruined the entire experience and the purpose of this book.
I didn't realize this was more of a thriller than a horror novel, and since I'm not a fan of thrillers, I didn't enjoy it as much. I was hoping for more genuine horror, suspense, unease, dread and panic.

This was an interesting one for me. I thought the first half had some very creepy parts but the second half came off a little cheesy in parts. It reminded me a lot of blockbuster summer alien type movies and I really wanted something scary. When I saw the comparisons to The Shining, I thought it would be a lot more atmospheric throughout. I saw a few reviews that compared it to the movie, Ghost Ship. I wish it would have been more like that movie. I also did not really connect with any characters.
I do think this book will work for a lot of people that want more of a sci-fi action book. But it was just lacking in character depth, atmosphere, and creepy elements for me.
