It was a slow start, but ended up tying itself quite nicely. I liked Girl on a Train, better. It keep my interest the entire time. This novel had too many characters and spanned various time periods that one has to keep up with to make sure you don't forget how the story ends for the characters.
Not memorable. Needed more witchery. I'm going through a witch phase.
Into The Water
By: Paula Hawkins
Nel Abbott is dead. She was found in the river that runs through town, the same place a teenage girl had taken her own life just a few months before. They are not the only two who has suffered the same fate in this river. Lena is now the motherless and as if that wasn't bad enough, her Aunt has now come to care for her...the same Aunt who ran from this town many years before.
"Some say Nel jumped, some say it was accidental. Some say it's just the way of the water. You just don't know what lies beneath the calming surfaces of this ever changing river and the secrets that lie within it." (goodreads)
Well if this book didn't have big shoes to fill then I don't know what kind of book does. Paula Hawkins is the author behind The Girl On The Train, and that was a very successful novel! Expectations were very high for this book. To me..they were not met. Ugh..I hate having to say that. I enjoyed the book, just not as much as I was hoping to have. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads. Let me tell you guys and gals why. I'll try my hardest to leave tis spoiler free.
I just simply never got my "wow" or "shock" factor from this novel like I did from her first one. I know I shouldn't compare the books, but I was hoping for more from Into The Water. I mean, The Girl On The Train was so amazingly fantastic and kept me guessing, but this one just didn't.
If you didn't know.. Into The Water follows perspectives from dozens of people. okay maybe not dozenssss...but close enough. It was so hard for me to keep up between all of them. They each were so different from one another I typically found myself going back through the book to check and make sure who said what and who did what and so on and on. I loved how developed the characters were as a plus! Hawkins did fantastic at establishing each character and keeping them unique.
With the whole lack of suspense it just felt like the characters didn't matter at the end. It was like the multiple points of views portrayed just tried to confuse you (which it succeeded) but it left the book feel drawn out. Some characters thought Nel jumped, some thought she was murdered, some thought she would never had thought of it at all. It was just very jumbled.
This was one of my most anticipated novels for 2017 and I was a bit disappointed. I read the whole book and didn't "DNF" it, so it kept my interest enough to finish. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this if someone asked me. Yes its a gorgeous book but please don't let the cover lure you in.

Good holiday/summer read....nothing deep. Old fashioned "who did it" page turner.
I listened to this as an audiobook and there were WAY too many characters to keep straight. I didn’t find this story very riveting either. It was just ok.
Lots of characters, good storyline, good twists, Listened to the audio book, and the various voices helped.
Honestly a struggle to get through. Cast of characters is too large (felt like I needed a map to remember who everyone was). Felt like this could’ve been a good story but I failed to connect with the way it was written.
I think Paula Hawkins had a great idea for a story, but it felt very disjointed for me. It didn't live up to 'Girl on the Train' for me.
