I've thought about this review a lot. The beginning of this book was a struggle. There are A LOT of characters introduced and more than a few "mysterious deaths" mentioned. This book almost begs to be read in one sitting just so you can keep the many characters separated. The author manages to set up a lot of suspects; however, I can admit that I kind of guessed who it was long before I got to the end.
I kept drawing comparisons to that other book featuring lots of drownings - [b:Ill Will|30687788|Ill Will|Dan Chaon|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1471284502s/30687788.jpg|51233590] - which was super dark & creepy and very "Gillian Flynn". This book is NOT Gillian Flynn (but I never really thought [b:The Girl on the Train|22557272|The Girl on the Train|Paula Hawkins|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1490903702s/22557272.jpg|41107568] was either).
The author has a lot of pressure to write a book like GOTT and while I don't think this is as riveting as GOTT, it's a solid second novel.

It's uniquely narrated in a way that takes a bit to get used to, but becomes really exciting and important for the perspective of the huge narrative being laid out. Fantastic lead up to the end.
The twists are a bit obvious but otherwise it's a good story and entertaining.
Whoaaaa. That was a ride. I don't want to give anything away because I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing about it and I really enjoyed it! I will say that at the beginning I was a little confused with all the characters and had a tough time keeping everyone's stories straight. But it sure picked up and was a really exciting read. Loved it!
I thought it was a pretty good book. I figured out who did it, but then there were some misleading clues thrown in and I wondered if I'd been wrong. Back around to the end and I was right after all.
Coming from someone who hasn't read her other book, I am amazed by Hawkins' story telling abilities. It took me a minute to get used to hearing from so many characters but once I did, this tale surrounded me and dragged me under.
Honestly this book was a huge disappointment for me. I loved Girl on the Train and devoured it quickly. Into the Water fell so flat. I couldn't keep the characters straight. Changing not only the narrator but back and forth from first to third person was too much to keep up with. I literally didn't care about a single character. I had to force myself to finish, and in the end, it wasn't really even worth it. :-/
