The pacing of the book towards the mid/end slowed a bit to much for me. But I truly enjoyed how real the characters felt and how their relationships evolved over time. Also appreciated the one or two Inheritance cycle Easter eggs. Overall a real solid space epic.

Struggling to decide between 4/5 stars. Great plot, loved the characters, overall fun and intriguing and I’ve been thinking about it ever since I finished! And holy crap, the detail. There is a glossary and timeline. I was overwhelmed at first but appreciated it by the end! There wasn’t too much technical mumbo-jumbo...though there were times I would be reading and start humming Rocketman instead of paying attention to the words “All the science/I don’t understand/Its just my job five days a week”

A solid, well-researched and well-developed tale of alien first contact. As with the Inheritance Cycle, Paolini takes his world-building very seriously, and the book was full of technical details and charts that were quite impressive. I really enjoyed the characters, human and alien alike, and some of the dream sequences had beautiful, lyrical writing. I did feel like the plot was oddly paced — some parts felt rushed and everything was happening too fast, and other parts draggingly slow. The book was also overly-long IMO, and would’ve been better if it had been ~150 pages shorter. All in all not perfect but a good experience and a solid contribution to the sci-fi genre.
