The newest book from New York Times Bestselling author of Eragon is a delightful epic science fiction novel.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars has the scope and complexity of Battlestar Galactica, aliens reminiscent of the 2016 movie Arrival, an impressive ship mind that feels similar to the Pilot on the television series Farscape, and the wonder of the 2014 movie Interstellar.

There’s hope, wonder, and perfectly placed humor amid a story of space exploration and the sudden appearance of alien life. Kira Navárez is a xenobiologist on an uncolonized planet when she stumbles across an alien relic. Her greatest discovery becomes a horrifying nightmare as the relic comes to life and bonds with her.

Kira is a relatable and sympathetic main character, and she is surrounded by a stellar cast of supporting characters. Ms. Hale gives each of these characters their own voice, and handles the complex dialogue with effortless skill.

The audiobook includes original music, phenomenal narration, and an interview with the author and narrator. The book is epic and amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction, epic space dramas, or the wonder of space exploration.

I was so close to finishing but I couldn’t do it. I wanted to just be done. I love science fiction but this just too long.  I love a good battle scene but it never ended with them.  It was time to be done

The story was slow and hard to follow. I listened to the audiobook i probably would have abandoned it if I was reading it instead.

I debated whether or not I was even going to add this book to my count this year. I've gotten to a point in my reading that if I DNF something, I don't really review it unless I have passionate thoughts on it. In the case of this book, I read about 182 or so pages before deciding to DNF. In most books that's close to halfway through, and I decided I did want this to count.

I was a little wary of this book since the two Eragon books I read made me so angry with the blatant Star Wars rip-offs. I was worried this one was going to be ripping off of Mass Effect, especially after I saw that Commander Shepard herself was doing the audiobook. Luckily the similarities end after the main character encounters a beacon that turns out to link her to an alien life-form. Or does it? I don't know, like I said I'm putting this on the DNF pile. It didn't feel as obvious a rip-off as Eragon was doing with Star Wars.

This is going on the DNF pile because I really did not like how Paolini was writing his female main character. It's pretty obvious to anyone who's read a book before that the fiance Alan is two days away from retirement the moment he's introduced, so that part wasn't too bad. It was when Kira was moaning about how ugly she looked now and how no one was going to love her. Girl, seriously? This kind of introspective happened twice in the 180-some pages I read. I feel like there were bigger things Kira could've been focusing on, like the fact that she saw this alien suit kill all her friends, or the fact that this huge galactic war started, or that an entire ship was blown up over the alien suit. But no, she's got to worry about her looks. I'm not saying I would've been okay with this if a woman had written it, but I sure wasn't okay with a man writing it.

I gave him a valiant effort, but I just don't think Paolini is an author I can get into.

I might rate this at closer to 3.25 but it was very much middle of the road for me. Christopher Paolini’s writing has certainly matured and he is a very good storyteller. That being said, I felt the book was longer than it needed to be (of course, a book’s length is always exactly what the creator dictates not I) or if not too long, than the plot was too sluggish- take your pick. I enjoyed the creativity involved but I kept feeling as though I was dipping into the plot of Halo (the creatures were different of course). So in terms of sci-fi quality I would put this in the middle of the road. With some abridgment I could see this being a very entertaining sci-fi series though

Es un libro disfrutón, pero, en ocasiones, ese afán del autor por llenar de acción la trama da la sensación de que en cualquier momento aparecerán King Kong y Godzilla. También digo que, a lo mejor, hasta me hubiera dado igual.

kinda boring, couldn't keep track of everything

DNF.
