Probably need to give this one a couple days before rating (I'm between a 3 and a 4 but not sure which way I'm rounding yet), kind of wish we'd get a sequel of just 'what the wallfish did next'
The scope of this book is massive. To tell a story of this magnitude in ~800 pages is truly an achievement.
Kira's story is one of growth (literally) and discovery. But through her eyes, we also experience: An intergalactic war and the potential doom of humanity and all that is good in the universe. A crew as dear to me as that of The Enterprise or Firefly or Babylon 5. And yes, tentacles.
Despite its length, this book truly is fast paced and exciting. I devoured it in a few days. Even if science fiction isn't your jam, I think it's worth a try.
The writing was phenomenal, the pacing impeccable. The characters are so witty and lovable. And the ending flipped all of my expectations on their heads. Things got pretty weird, but in an unexpected way. 5/5⭐

This was an interesting science fiction adventure on premise but really failed in execution. It was so slow (so so so slow) and drawn out and the characters were really shallow. I get running on adrenaline but they really glossed over that everyone Kira cared about died in the first few characters into the book and then she throws herself into saving the world. The aliens are inconsistent and over the place like the science and space systems that were created were just not fleshed out enough (except when there was a painful amount of extraneous detail). The end made no sense to me and it wrapped up way too neatly given the rest of the book. Overall it was a slog and I wish I had skimmed through a lot of it.

To sleep in a sea of stars has some cool idea's behind it. Christopher excels at buidling a living, breathing world. He does seem to be a bit overly enthousiastic, not knowing where to stop. He seems to change his mind quite often trying to outdo himself.
On the whole it is a decent book and nice read, altough not any wonder to speak of.
