I loved reading these books in the third grade. I read this one to my 5-year-old, I think he's still a little young for it. He liked it though. I'll probably read the rest to him when he's older.

So sexist. All the heroes are boys, and the only female character is a princess who is described by her beauty.

LOL, just kidding! Can you imagine if I was really like that. Gross.

Simple, but easy to digest book for young readers. Scieszka is more interested in developing the three boys than he is in exploring the history or lore of their fantasy time travel.

I think that I had probably read this before because it felt familiar, but I needed the reread. This book is quick, funny, and a very good choice for beginnings readers. I'm interested in where they go next and there's definitely a good set up for a series here. It's more engaging than series like The Magic Tree House was, but that's mainly because the book throws you right in and is witty all the way through. I will keep this one in mine for recommendations.

For: fans of fantasy and adventure; beginning readers.

Possible red flags: crude humor.

This book wasn't for me. I don't think I could have imagined liking it as a kid either. Just thought the characters were undeveloped and the story doesn't really have a lot of depth. It's just really a light goofy read where things happen too fast.

This is weird boy humor that I can appreciate. Listened to this on audio, paired with book two ([b:The Not-So-Jolly Roger]) - not bad at all to listen to. It's kind of like a funnier, wackier, somewhat edgier version of The Magic Tree House. Kinda.

Fun book with a good sense of humor. Thomas enjoyed reading it with me before bed the past few nights.

I remember my elementary school librarian reading these books to our class when they came out. I also remember these books kicking a lot of ass!

I <3 Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith! :)

Really cute - I enjoyed their terrifying take on Merlin.
