Ich fand das Buch klasse. Der Schreibstil, wir der Autor mit Worten umgeht und die Atmosphäre haben mir unheimlich gut gefallen. Der Plot twist kam unvorbereitet und hat dem Buch sehr viel Tiefe gegeben.

Quite an interesting topic.
Nevertheless, it did not get interesting until the last 30% of the book. I am a big fan of elaborated back stories and well-built characters, but in this case, I felt this could have been a short story. It would be more impactful. The characters were flat anyway, so why waste pages? The actually interesting part of the book and the argument that made it relevant to German society was so rushed and condensed.
There are quite some misogynistic biases, especially in the character of Mattinger. It perpetuates and normalises horrible stereotypes that were necessary for the story. For example;the treatment of her young girlfriend as a complete object or the fact that he interrogated a possible victim of rape for days. He was right in the end , but the author could have chosen a better example that did not perpetuate a narrative against women. This is just fuel for those who are against women speaking out about rape and domestic violence.
Despite this, the last chapters were very interesting in regards of German law and history. I will be reading more about the topic and how this book helped reassess it.

An enjoyable read that leads to an unlikely conclusion in the book and led to changes to German law in real life. However, I felt the way that the lead character stumbled on the motive for the crime felt just a bit too neat and unlikely.
