It’s just hard for me to find an adult romance book that I like. I like the premise but not the execution.

This is how you write a realistic but not boring romance!
Although the characters are both dealing with very series past traumas, this story felt very cozy. Their romance bloomed naturally and while Finn was a “grump,” he wasn’t a brooding cartoon character. They actually went on dates! Got to know each other! COMMUNICATED! And it didn’t leave the plot stale!
My only criticism is that this didn’t feel like a STEM romance. Although they both worked in scientific fields, they never really talk about their careers outside of “how did you get into this?” We’re also never in the room when Millie is in an interview.
But whatever, I’m here for the spicy romance and I got what I came for! Definitely pick this up if you love contemporary romance but looking for something a little more grounded.

Graphic: Sexual content
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Grief
Honestly the only reason I finished this book was because I chose it for romance book club, otherwise it would have been a DNF, and to be really really honest I skimmed the back half. There's just so much here that could have worked but didn't. The way these two were constantly sexualizing each other in situations that it didn't feel appropriate in (like at work or caring for his five year old nieces) made me really uncomfortable. The fact that he's on the hiring committee for the promotion she's been dreaming of and doesn't really respect her boundaries when she tells him they can't pursue anything at that time, AND THEN we find out way later that he'd dropped out of the committee early on but didn't, like, tell her that until they'd already pursued a relationship??? Idk I could go on but suffice to say this was really underdeveloped and weird and I had higher hopes for it than this.
Overall 3 stars ⭐️ I wanted to love it but I just didn’t. It felt too forced? While it explored both good and hard topics the good was almost this romanticized version of real life. It emulated it but ultimately just wasn’t realistic. But overall I kept reading it and I was attached to the characters.
THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD. jillian meadows you KNOW how to write a beautiful romance. the imagery and metaphors are so incredible it makes me want to cry. millie and finn were perfectly flawed characters, and it was refreshing to read about a couple that is SO honest and open. avery and eloise are distinctly different characters despite both being 5 year old twins, and i think their portrayal as well as the budding relationship between them and millie, and finn and millie, is so well done. so splendid. so marvelous. loved it!
