I am not a runner but I enjoyed the insight this book gave me into why some people might choose to run. Finishing this book felt a bit like a marathon. It was a bit tedious, felt like there was no end in sight and it contained some big issues and zero trigger warnings. I’m not sure anyone outside of NZ will appreciate the constant name dropping of streets and suburbs or the repetitive descriptions of sneakers on roads.

I’m a runner, so I really got into this book. Loved Mickey, got into her character gradually. I began understanding the struggles and running challenges as she grew up. The tension eith her siblings as they all experienced their father differently was relatable so much. I absolutely adored Bonnie - Mickey’s mom till the very end. Running is about community -
