Wow...release date moved from September 3 to January 7th!

A great comfort read!

This is my first Jaci Burton read. I have admired her sexy book covers from afar and decided to dip my toe into Hope Flames. I cannot believe I didn’t take the plunge sooner! I love books set in small towns where everyone knows everyone else’s business. I love that both hero and heroine are damaged and skeptical about following their hearts and taking a chance on starting something new.

The characters are well-developed and multi-faceted. Officer Luke, RAWR!! What a manly man! There ain’t nothing sexier than a man in uniform. He’s been hurt in the past and has reverted back to the love ‘em and leave ‘em type until he encounters Emma, the new veterinarian with a heart of gold. Emma has some past hurts as well, but I love how she has persevered and found the strength and courage to follow her dreams. I also loved the animal aspect of the book and how well they interacted with all the characters.

The book was excellent. The love scenes were beautifully written. I loved the struggle both characters had with putting past demons behind them and grabbing a hold of the happiness they both want, yet scared to accept. This book is must read for romance and animal lovers a like. I am desperately looking forward to the next book in the series!

Sweet, DOGS, and a cute couple. I just didn’t absolutely love the gun stuff....being a teacher in the world today makes me cringe away from reading about casual personal firearm use - don’t @ me unless you also go to work and practice hiding from bad guys with kindergartners

This book was a little too drawn out for me but I liked it enough to try more by this author (it was the first I have read by Jaci).

Hope Flames
2 Stars

Settling into her new life as a small town vet and recovering from an abusive relationship, Emma Burnett isn’t interested in romance until Officer Luke McCormick walks into the clinic. Luke isn’t looking for anything more than a casual fling, but Emma soon begins to mean more to him. Will Luke and Emma be able to overcome their personal demons to be together…

Despite likable characters and a plot with definite potential, the story and writing just do not live up to the sexiness of the cover.

Emma and Luke are a cute couple and their romance is relatively free of angst. Unfortunately, the pacing is too slow and the dialogue is rather stilted. The townsfolk and pets are quite charming but something is missing to make them truly exceptional.

The small suspense plot is completely superfluous and adds nothing to either the characters or the story.

There is nothing special about this book and I doubt that I will continue with the series.

This is a good example why I don’t read a lot of contemporary. This book was good but so damn boring. The characters were nothing special. If I read contemporary I need humor. Like lots of humor. I’ll stick with my PNR

Hope Flames, Hope #1, by Jaci Burton
Grade: C-

“Love scares all of us, Emma. It’s probably the scariest thing any of us will ever do.”

Emma Burnett is coming back to Hope, Oklahoma to finally open her own veterinary practice and be closer to her family. After a bad relationship in college Emma has spent the last few years doing nothing but focusing on her dream of opening her own practice and with that finally happening she starts to realize how lonely her life is. When emma meets officer Luke McCormack Emma realizes that all the guy out there are bad and she might just open up her life and her heart again.

Officer Luke McCormack has sworn off relationships after his ex-wife and his mother took off. Luke meets the new vet when getting care for his police dog and he can’t help but be entranced by the sexy new doctor. As time goes on Luke finds himself unable to stay away from Emma and soon finds himself in a relationship he never knew he wanted. As things heat up in Hope, Luke realizes how much he cares for Emma and how far he’ll got to protect her.

I am a huge Jaci Burton fan but I found myself really disappointed with Hope Flames almost from the first few chapters. This book is only three hundred and twenty pages but I felt like it dragged for the majority of it and never found a rhythm. There were multiple times when I thought about other things or moving on to a new book because I had just lost interest. The sex scenes are classic Burton and keep the book from being really boring but for the most part it’s lacking the magic of her books.

I liked Luke and Emma but I felt that their story could have been told in a novella and not a full book. These two danced around each other for way too long and never seemed to really connect. I get that they both have issues but they took so long to talk or share any type of true feelings. I found a lot of their relationship very predictable, along with most of the storyline. I was never surprised and I think this helped with my boredom.

I am shocked that I feel this way about a Jaci Burton book but I am not giving up on this series. I am very interested in Emma’s sister and Luke’s brother. I know neither of them will be together but I’m eagerly anticipating both of their future book. I have high hopes for this series because it is Jaci Burton and that woman knows how to write some romance.

Eh... I've had better. But this was good enough to finish.
