PET SEMATARY
WRITER:Stephen King
PUBLISHING DATE:November 14th, 1983
PUBLISHER:Doubleday (original)/Circulo do Livro (Version Read)
SCORE:9.4
An absolute masterpiece by Stephen King. I pretty liked everything on it, the atmosphere is amazing, the characters are really likeable, well most of them (fuck you Irwin Goodman), the horror is very well done, being a very intense and spine-chilling story, which is an amazing take on death and mortality in general, i also like the edition, the simple prose and style of Stephen King works very well in this book’s favor, translating into a much more human, credible narrative, than it would be if it used a more labored style of writing. It’s not perfect, only god is if he even exists. The story is a little too slow in the beginning, and this may cause some impatient people to really give up on this book, but don’t do it, it’s amazing, and if you want a scary, spine-chilling story with some really poignant and hard-hitting moments, without being too tryhard and too complicated. This novel is for you.

A very disturbing story that is a must-read for horror lovers. It is heavy and deals with topics such as death, trauma, madness, hard choices... But in such a gripping way that you just have to sit down and get along with it until the end. And just when you think it cannot get more horrifying it does.

Pet Semetery may be the scariest book by King I’ve read so far and it’s definitely the best one I’ve read since The Shining. I think often King’s novels are like the longest build up ever to the world’s saddest orgasm but I actually felt that the pay off was worth it in this novel. I’ll also say that this was some very strong character writing but despite that maybe only two characters were actually likable, though I do at least think the mental decline in Louis over time is articulated well. I was also slightly put off by the completely out of place sex scenes that added literally nothing to the story but King is nothing if not horny. Even though I love to complain about King’s books I really did enjoy this one and would actually recommend it to people especially if you’re new to King or horror in general. I still think it could’ve been edited so much shorter but for the most part it felt more evenly paced than other King novels and I wasn’t often bored.
