This book was really well written, but it wasn't as good as Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The fantasy elements were still present, but the stories didn't always interest me.

3 STARS

"Kissing can ruin lives. Lips touch sometimes teeth clash. New hunger is born with a throb and caution falls away."

Laini Taylor's writing would always be the highlight in every one of her stories, whether they be novels or short stories like this one. She always brings that fairytale-like quality into her storytelling.

I basically have no complaints with this one. Objectively, I think this is the best short story collection I've read. But I don't solely base my rating on technicalities alone. I rate for enjoyment, and this one had a hard time grabbing my attention that it took me almost two months to finish.

That's about it for the 3 star rating. But other than that, the three stories in here are immaculate. All have significance with the word "kiss" - as the title dictates - but they're never cheesy. Woven with bits of mythology and Taylor's signature tragedy, the stories felt like classics themselves.

Anyone who's a fan of Laini Taylor would surely enjoy this more than I did.

Illustrations by her husband added more depth to the stories. Really enjoyed the 3 stories.

Excellent set of 3 short stories. Portland author and her husband-illustrator.

The stories were all good, but I think mainly I just love Laini Taylor's writing style.

The first story was the weakest, in my opinion, but I loved the second and third stories.

This collection of short stories made me fall back in love with Laini Taylor's writing. Despite having the entire 'Daughter of Smoke and Bone' series sitting unread on my bookshelves, I decided to pick this up to satisfy that void between reading Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares. Let's just say, Laini Taylor's writing and imagination are an incredible combination. Each story in this book is beautifully self-contained.

My favourite story was undoubtedly, Spicy Little Curses Such As These. I loved the whole concept of the story. A demon and an ambassador to Hell squabbling over a young girl's soul and bartering with souls. It's dark and delicious. It was so captivating. All of the stories are.

Intoxicating. Hypnotic. Lush. These words to me perfectly encapsulate these three stories. I have never read anything like them. Laini Taylor’s writing is beautiful and combined with her engaging and enthralling plots, makes for an excellent read. Some people may call these fairy tales, but to me they are more than that. Taylor exhibits such an aptitude for human nature that each story burrows into your soul.

The third and last story, “Hatchling”, stuck to me the most and one that I will never forget for a long time. I don’t want to spoil anything and it’s best to go into this book blind. You will not regret it.
