Preface: i have never read the other books in this universe and I honestly didn’t know they existed until after i finished.

I felt like this whole universe was fleshed out and despite that it still fell flat for me. I was actually rolling my eyes at how obnoxious and annoying the main character was. It was a struggle to get through the first few chapters because of the writing. Which leads me to the next point, did an editor ever go through this? More than a cursory glance? Because the copy I had was a mess. I hope they cleaned it up in later editions. Several times words would be completely missing from sentences, you knew what should have been there from context but it was still weird to see throughout the book.

I finished the book but I don’t plan on finishing the series. I just don’t care enough.

I like it. Interesting storyline. but no ooohhsss aaaahhhhs, no heart wrenching, no tearjerkers, no breathtaking chapters. Will read book 2 if it gets any better.

Really fun read! JLA is such a talent. Obviously this is a ‘teen’ book but that’s the only thing holding back a 5 star review. Really funny dialogue. Great world and characters, can’t wait for book 2!

Listened to the dramatised audiobook and omg the VAs acted their a$$es off, especially Misha. Bravo
The book gave me Shadowhunters vibes, which I enjoyed a lot! The spice isn't too spicy so i think it's suitable for new adults.
I liked it a lot, the FMC was funny and relatable but not in an annoying way
There isn't much representation of other races, genders or sexualities but the FMC has a sort of disability so that's interesting.
Overall i enjoyed it a lot, it was a quick listen/read and quite lighthearted even tho there are some themes of grief and SA

Reading the back, I was expecting a classic fantasy setting in some far-off whimsical land with a map in the front of the book, turns out, it takes place (mostly) in modern-day Washington D.C I didn't particularly love that, but it's grown on me. The romance is of the dramatic variety, which is definitely the reason I enjoyed it, (if there's not drama, then I don't wanna) one thing that drove me up a freaking wall was one character would apologize, and the other would say "you don't need to apologize" LIKE A THOUSAND TIMES IN A ROW, BACK AND FORTH. UGH. made me cringe. However, the twist towards the end, I genuinely did not forsee unfolding in that particular way. A bitter sweet suprise.

DONT READ THE BACK OF BOOK TWO WITHOUT FINISHING THE FIRST ONE, TOTALLY SPOILS THE FACT THAT SOMETHING HAPPENS TO (redacted to avoid spoilers)

I hadn't read Jennifer L Armentrout in a while. And I don't know why. What possessed me to not read her for so long? I became obsessed with Storm and Fury just a few pages in.

The characters are well-developed, and I loved their interaction. Trinity was amazing. She went through a lot, but she doesn't give up. She needs to keep the secret of what she is (and what secret that is!), but she's not afraid to reveal the truth to protect the people she loves. Zayne, out male character is great. At the beginning I was wondering what his motives were since it seemed like he was always where Trinity was, but then things became clear. I can't wait to continue with this trilogy.
