I liked the action. This one is very steamy. I can't wait to read the others in this series!

My keeper shelf is reserved for books which I know I’ll read again. So, with characters that immediately jumped out and grabbed my attention, and a plot that held my interest, I have to say Lori Foster’s new release When You Dare, is a welcome addition to my romantic suspense keeper shelf. Great action, dialogue, characters, secondary relationships and romance make When You Dare an exciting start to this new series and I’m looking forward to the next book, Trace of Fever, coming out next month. I have a full review posted at B&N: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/Heart-to-Heart-The-BN-Romance/When-You-Dare-by-Lori-Foster/ba-p/958476

I do like Lori Foster's books and this one didnt disappoint.
yes, it has all I expected - the most he-man of a hero (strong, has a soft side, mean, trustworthy etc etc), a feisty heroine, and good support cast (Chris, the girls, Trace).
I did get a bit miffed at a couple of references to what women wouldnt/couldnt do which didnt ring true for me and Molly did have a couple of TSTL moments but they did advance the plot.
Off to read the rest of the series now

I read the prequel for this series, Ready, Set, Jett before starting this book (It's in the anthology called The Guy Next Door). While it's not critical to do so, I recommend you read it it as it's helpful and pretty good.

Dare Macintosh goes to Mexico to rescue the sister of his closest friend and sometimes work partner. She was abducted by human traffickers and when he found her, there was another woman with her who was unconscious. Rather than leave her, Dare brought her out with Alani. Turns out, she's the infamous romantic suspense writer, Molly Alexander and it's clear her abduction had nothing to do with human trafficking.

The story centers around Dare and Molly attempting to figure out who ordered her abduction and abuse. Molly hired Dare to continue to protect her in the meantime and both recognize they are attracted to each other beyond a victim/protector relationship. The first half of the book is very interesting and the premise of the story is intriguing as other attempts to abduct Molly are made following her rescue. Dare is an enigma so learning about him is also a reason to keep reading.

Somewhere around the halfway point, the story starts to lose it's way. There's a lot of repetition as both Molly and Dare analyze their feelings. Yes, this is something different for both, they've never been attracted to anyone in quite this way, etc., etc., etc. We get it the first time but for some reason, it bore repeating on many occasions. I hung in there because you just knew this was the lull before the proverbial storm where we would see an exciting climax. Unfortunately, that didn't really happen. Yes, there was a fairly rousing end but not at the level I was expecting.

I loved the characters in this book and the prequel and they provided a level of enjoyment. The premise allowed for so many opportunities to keep me on the edge of my seat but it didn't deliver. It was a good story that could have been excellent. I plan to continue the series with the hope that the next book reaches the level of suspense and excitement I'm looking for.

Not bad. I had some pre-conceptions about the author which proved to be unfounded.

Dare looked as though he was tipping into Alphahole-ness at the mid-point but then redeemed himself.

So, Molly has been kidnapped and is being held in Tijuana. Dare is on a mission to rescue his best friend's little sister and can't leave this unconscious woman lying on the floor. Unlike the other women captured, Molly isn't very young or extraordinarily pretty, nor has she been treated in the same way. Dare feels responsible for her and tries to find out why she was kidnapped.

I didn't think the identity of the 'criminal mastermind' was that big of a surprise, especially when part way through the book the POV switches to a hitherto unknown person - BIG CLUE there!

I thought the ending was a bit rushed - start to finish less than 10 minutes reading!

But generally a solid three

I just started it; I needed something light that requires little thought from me. I'll let you know when I've finished.
