Granted I didn’t always quite understand what was going on, I saw the villain reveal comjng a mile away, the world building was a bit lacking at times. Has flaws but once I adjusted to it, I really enjoyed this

This book is so wonderfully written. Not just through her choice of vocabulary, but through beautiful prose. It is difficult to find books written at this caliber. Andrew’s portrayal of Delaney is one that can only be captured through the experience of being deaf. The perceived fragility of being deaf mixed with the vital need to be seen as a whole person—someone who isn’t damaged— is something few authors are willing to take on, and Andrew does it perfectly. The Whispering Dark feels like grieving when you’ve already made friends with Death. It feels like coming home to a place you’ve forgotten until you arrive, the memory rushing back to you. Andrews book captures a unique twist on ghost stories. On murder plot lines and falling in love. It very quickly climbed a long list of books I cherish, and has planted itself among my time five.

The atmosphere. The prose. The exquisitely spooky vibes! This book reads a bit like a dream, with plots sometimes requiring more leaping to connect than you would usually do, but just go along for the ride because the journey is worth it.

Full disclosure: I mainly picked this up because of loving the start of both Your Blood, My Bones, and I Am Made of Death. Yes, I've been reading all three books at once, but I couldn't help myself. These books are all connected, so if you enjoy one, give the others a try, as well!

I won’t lie, this book was confusing. It’s one of those books where you’re meant to piece together the story through context clues and you’re never really quite sure as to what’s going on, which I loved.

I enjoyed the world and gothic/necromancy vibes; however, I was left wanting more…more depth from the characters, more story development, more connection/tension between the love interests.
dark

This was definitely a me problem.  I was frequently bored and found myself zoning out at many points.  Despite there being two POVs, I found their voices very similar.  It wouldn't be until a few paragraphs in when I would notice the focus shift.  I wanted there to be more: more tension, more romance, more suspense, more anything.  This was a disappointment, only because I should have loved it > dark academia, possessions/haunting, forbidden love... and i had hoped to love it because ive read so little deaf rep.

I had to read each chapter twice. The first time to get willingly lost in the prose, the second time to actually assimilate the plot. Some readers might think of it as a fault of the book, I saw it as listening to a song in a foreign language: enjoying the melody without understanding the lyrics immediately.
The closest thing to the Raven Boys I have experienced, in both writing and that specific brand of plot-not-plot.
