Every character in this book is flawed and kind of terrible, nothing is as it seems, and the twists and turns make this an intense read to the end. For fans of Gone Girl.
The alcoholic, depressed, and yes, stupid main character was difficult to take. All three women characters weren’t likable, but neither were the guys! To compare this “just okay” story [killer was easy to spot] to the psychological thriller masterpiece Gone Girl is an insult.
So...This was good so far as the writing is concerned, I do really like this author. I also enjoyed that I wasn't close to guessing what actually happened. I did have some of it worked out, mostly the why's, but was off on the who. I love when that happens, when you just can't see it coming and you're surprised. The thing I struggled with was I didn't like any of these characters, not one of them. I guess baby Evie, but really, she was pretty minor and a baby. I usually find someone to root for, but with these horrible people, I just couldn't. I thought they all got what they deserved in the end. But, I guess that makes it good and well written because I suspect that's how we're supposed to feel? I don't know. I do know that I'm going to read other things by this author, and I will check out the movie adaptation to see how they pull it off.
