DID NOT FINISH

I usually am all in for a light,, fluffy book, but there was something I just didn’t connect with here. Maybe I’m just too gay to imagine a guy’s member jumping every time a woman does even the smallest thing? Tricia was adorable, but I found Chris a little annoying with the whole “I literally only think about things in terms of football.” I dunno, maybe I’m cranky. I really wanted to like this book because I LOVE friends to lovers, but I wasn’t feeling it this time.
emotional funny lighthearted fast-paced

"Who better to spend your forever with than your best friend?”
Except he hadn’t gotten forever with her.
“Even if some of that forever is just holding her in my heart.”"

"There’s time for us to get to know everything, babe. I’m not going anywhere. I don’t only want you now, tonight, I want a whole lot more.”"

The Cck Down The Block* delivers a hilarious and heartwarming friends-to-lovers romance featuring Trixie and Chris, childhood best friends who have navigated years of camaraderie, unspoken feelings, and, well, the judgmental glare of Trixie’s pet rooster. Chris, a football player who’s harbored a secret crush on Trixie for years, jumps at the chance to be her date for her ten-year high school reunion, deciding it’s time to confess his feelings. But with Trixie’s insecurities and her rooster’s blatant hostility, will their friendship survive—or transform into something more?
This book was pure joy from start to finish. Its quirky, over-the-top humor might not land with everyone, but for me, it was spot-on. I love books that don’t take themselves too seriously, and this one strikes the perfect balance between laugh-out-loud comedy and meaningful, heartfelt moments. Despite the lighthearted tone, the story delves into serious themes like body image and the impact of fatphobia, handled with sensitivity and care. Trixie’s journey of self-acceptance is beautifully done, adding depth to an otherwise breezy narrative.
What truly sold me on this story was the friendship between Trixie and Chris. One of my biggest gripes with the friends-to-lovers trope is when the friendship doesn’t feel genuine, but that wasn’t the case here. Their bond feels authentic, and even when they transition into a romantic relationship, their friendship remains the foundation, which is refreshing and heartwarming.
The supporting cast also shines, especially Chris’s siblings, who are set to star in future books. Each sibling has distinct traits and personalities, which is rare in stories with large families where everyone often blends together. It left me eager to dive into their stories.
The one thing that held me back from giving this book a full five stars was the ending. While the conflict was compelling and necessary for character growth, the resolution felt a bit too predictable, especially given how original and unconventional the rest of the book was. A more surprising twist could have elevated it to perfection.
That said, The Cck Down The Block* is an absolute blast—a mix of hilarity, heart, and emotional depth that left me thoroughly entertained.

The characters and the plot did not call to me. I might come back at a later date, but at the moment, I am just not feeling it. Also the name of the rooster is so silly, it just... not my thing. 😅

The title of this book made me want to read it, and I did enjoy this. I didn't love the way they just kept talking about how he loved her size and implying the boys' mom was curvy and they all just love curvy women. That aspect of it was kind of a weird emphasis. But the story of friends to lovers was cute and it was a quick read.
