Satisfying conclusion to the Grishaverse (though more stories are always welcome.) Many characters from the Grishaverse have cameos.

The queer content in these books has gotten much, much better. Most of my complaints about this in the first trilogy have been answered. I do like how the queerness in this universe exlplicitly exists and is normalized. The closest we get to a coming out story is about a transman becoming himself.

In the aftermath of King of Scars, Zoya has been granted a great, unearthly power and Nikolai has been forced to come to terms with the darkness inside him, and they intend to use it to rid the world of the Darkling forever and vanquish Ravka's enemies: the devious Shu to the South and the bloodthirsty Fjerdans to the North. One fights with words and secret plots and the other fights with fervor and brutality that even Nikolai's inventions are no match against. Nina is at the heart of the Fjerdan court, hoping to dismantle their regime from the inside, her personal stakes in her mission growing by the day. Our heroes will call on allies old and new to secure their shared dream: a peaceful Ravka, a safe haven for all Grisha.
.
I was LIVING for the Zoya character arc. Here she is, having been given all this power, but she is immediately careful not to abuse it. She barely even considers herself worthy of it. I loved watching her grow into it throughout the book. I loved Nikolai's similar arc, embracing the monster within, accepting the truth of his heritage what that means for his future as Ravka's king. Their own relationship becomes this beautiful, delicate thing, that I was terrified would be crushed.
.
I liked how Nina's storyline aligned with theirs, as she discovers inside information. Nina's passion had always been her most admirable quality, but I think it gets in her way a few times. Also, LB has always been LGBTQ+ friendly, but I really liked her interpretation of a transgender character set in this fantasy world.
.
I liked the way it ended, but I felt like there were a lot fo empty chapters. I really wasn't interested in Mayu's chapters and felt like the Shu subplot could have been taken out entirely and it wouldn't have changed the main plot. It needed a stronger tie to the story as a whole, or a stronger narrator.

No more grishverse books. What am I supposed to do now

really really good, i finished the whole grisha verse and even though i dread to part with the characters, i absolutely loved the journey

I always love re-entering this world, and this conclusion was a satisfying one. It still kept the heart of the series, and though it could get a little overstuffed at times, I was happy to be in that world again.
