This is probably technically the best book in the Wings of Fire series, and my second favorite one (Moon Rising is my favorite).  This book is tragic and doesn't pull punches.  We already had an idea of how it would end, from what we knew from Moon Rising, Winter Turning, and Escaping Peril.  We knew it wouldn't end well for Darkstalker, Clearsight, and Fathom.  But it was different to see it all play out in front of us, with being inside the characters heads while these tragic events were happening.  Also, side note, but Clearsight's prophecy powers were so well written!  It was so interesting to see all the possible futures, and how it impacted her in the present.  Darkstalker's corruption arc was also pretty well written, although his shift towards darkness was a little fast.  Honestly, though, I really just love this book.  It's such an enjoyable read.

alright, out of the entire series i think this book was the best. i truly enjoyed the story, a main reason i like this book is because its easy to read. and the store was a lot darker than the others and i know this is a book for children but its kind of my go to.

This is a wonderful companion to the Wings of Fire series. It gives an account of the background to an important story line in the Wings of Fire series and really gives the reader the insight into why Darkstalker is the way he is.

It is a compelling tale about fate and how one can affect it. It also has a beautiful message about how people are not inherently good or evil. They simple make good or bad decisions.

It was suspenseful, heart-wrenching, sweet, and funny. I enjoyed it! Some parts may be a little scary and brutal for the youngest of readers.
