4.25⭐

Fighting the Fire was a great story. That featured two really likable entertaining characters in Sean and Dani. But not only that it had depth and I enjoyed getting to know Sean and Dani and watch as they fought to overcome their issues of loss and inadequacy. And I was utterly engaged throughout.

Furthermore, I loved the supporting cast of characters, and all the nods, and references to Deadpool, which I'm ashamed to say, I've never watched. Yet, I'm so going to remedy that after reading this story. And I'm going to re-read the earlier books in the series too, as this story reminded me what a great author Ms Kaye is.

Would recommend.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I really don't know how I feel about this book. It was delayed so long that I've forgotten everything about the series, what I liked, what I disliked, all of it. That would be a good thing, but it's left me in a place where I really don't know what to say about this book. It wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't a great read either. The characters were easy to connect with, to the point where I wound up crying near the end of the book, but they also didn't feel that memorable either. I got to the end and was just like "Eh, ok." and that's sad for a book that was so anticipated. I hope that once I go back and read everything in order, I'll have a different perspective on this story.

Series: Warrior Fight Club #3
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Firefighter Sean Riddick keeps the demons at bay by working constantly and going to Warrior Fight Club, even if it means dealing with Daniela England. She drives him nuts but he can’t forget how good they are together. When he gets injured, Daniela steps in to help him and they find they have more in common than they thought.

I have been eagerly waiting for this book since 2018, and it did not disappoint. Laura Kaye always does an amazing job at writing emotionally powerful stories with wonderful characters. Daniela and Sean have been frenemies since they met but after one night with too much alcohol leads to a one night stand, everything changes. As you can imagine, both of them are determined to keep their walls up but that doesn’t work after Sean’s accident.

Both of them have experienced loss and deprivation throughout their lives and have learned to cope in different ways. Daniela is determined to live but refuses to open her heart to love again. The more time she spends with Sean though, the more she realizes that she hasn’t really been living since her husband's death. Her grief was so powerful and heartbreaking that I just wanted to reach through the book to hug her. Sean uses self-deprecating humor constantly because his life has taught him that he isn’t worthy. It was heartbreaking to see him constantly put himself down, especially after you learn why he believes he isn’t worthy. Daniela and Sean both have a lot of barriers but together they learned to lean on each other and healed from their pasts.

As you can tell, I really enjoyed everything about this book. Another great thing about this series is just the comradery between all the members of the WFC. They are family and you could really see it in this one when they all rushed to take care of Sean and be there for him during his recovery. I just love that we get to see how the previous couples, and other members, lives have changed or will be changing in the future. I can’t wait for the next book, which I hope is Mo’s because I really want him to fall in love.

Trigger Warnings:
- Daniela’s husband died six years ago and she is still grieving.
- Motorcycle accident, on page
- Parental death mentioned
- Parental verbal abuse mentioned

This book had me at first page. I’ve been in a fantasy mood lately, so when I picked this one up I was doubting if I was in the right mood for a romance. I’m so glad I picked it up! Laura Kaye never fails me, she’s definitely one of my favorite romance authors.

I was intrigued by Daniela and Sean’s dynamics from their first interaction in the story. They trained together in the Warrior Fight Club, they had an amazing group of friends there and they ended up seeing each other a lot. Sean was a badass firefighter and Daniela was a great nurse. Their chemistry was insane but she wasn’t ready to give in to their attraction. Well… not again. But then Sean had an accident and Daniela swooped in to help him during his recovery. These two were already struggling to resist each other, being in close proximity in Sean’s house meant the pull between them became impossible to ignore. The banter between this two was freaking amazing! Their moments together were hot, steamy, sweet and so, so funny! I loved the fact that Sean was such a superhero fan and I laughed a lot with his Deadpool lines. I also loved how Sean introduced the Marvel universe to Daniela and how they bonded watching Marvel’s movies.

They were so good together and it was amazing watching them opening up to each other. I really loved their story. I really liked Daniela’s background story, I can’t speak about the Kiowa tribe representation but I enjoyed her deep connection with her granny and how much she missed her and the Kiowa community.

The final conflict between them punched me in the stomach, I get that Daniela needed to deal with certain aspects of her past but I wished that it had been done differently. Keeping it vague here to not spoil the story.

Fighting the Fire was a sweet, hot, steamy, emotional, beautifully written romance with amazing characters and so much banter! Highly entertaining, I definitely enjoyed this one and I recommend it.

Laura Kaye is BACK!! This final installment in the Warrior Fight Club series was perfect!

Daniela England is a former Army helicopter evac nurse, who now works in the ER. She's also a member of the Warrior Fight Club, and sparring with her friends helps keep her demons at bay. Her husband, who was also in the Army, died in combat 6 years ago, and she's been protecting her heart ever since. After a lifetime of her loved ones leaving her too soon, she's determined to never risk her emotions on love again. But, another fighter in the group gets under her skin in all the ways she's been trying to avoid. So, she responds with sarcasm, and they have a strong frenemies vibe, until one night their chemistry blazes out of control. They both decide it can't happen again, but then a motorcycle accident changes everything between them.

Sean Riddick, is a former Navy man, and a firefighter, and he loves his job. He also loves all the benefits he gets from being a part of the Warrior Fight Club. He feels like he's damaged goods, after growing up with an abusive father, and losing friends in the service, that he feels responsible for. The spark between him and Dani is huge, but he knows it can't go anywhere. Until it does, once, and he thinks that's all he'll get. But after he gets into a motorcycle crash, and she steps up to help him out, he wonders if there could be more to their banter after all.

Sean and Dani's back-and-forth was excellent, and their connection jumped off the page. It was also clear to everyone who knew them, so all their WFC friends were always wondering when they would finally combust. I loved watching them dig beneath the surface and truly get to know each other during Sean's recovery. They both discovered how little they actually knew about each other, and found out how much they had in common.

The side characters here, all of Dani and Sean's friends from the WFC, were all seen in the prior books, and it was fun to catch up with them and see how their lives are continuing on. They often acted as a sounding board for the main couple, and they all really care for each other.

The dead ex trope is not usually my jam, but it worked for me in this book, I think because of the length of time that had passed, and how it was all laid out. I thought that Dani was finally ready to move on, and it felt like a realistic time line. Other tropes in this book that I always love, that also worked well here included frenemies to lovers, and sick bed/one caring for the other. I really believed in Sean and Dani as a couple, and I wanted them to figure things out.

I got teary eyed a couple times in this book, and then full-on sobbed towards the end. It was such a beautiful story, and the characters came to mean so much to me! I really enjoy this author's words, and I'm so glad she's back to writing them!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This review is my personal opinion, voluntarily given.
