On one hand, I was able to keep up with a lot of the Scripture references, figurative language, and imagery, which I don’t usually enjoy. On the other hand, it’s the definition of a slow paced book, which since it depicts very well the journey of the Christian life, adds to the imagery because the Christian life is long and challenging, but I’m not to big of a fan of slow books.
medium-paced
This is a genius book written by an admirable man of deep faith! An allegory I think every Christian should read, whether it be an abridged or unabridged version. The various aspects of this "novel" were delightful: from descriptive characters' names to a literal journey to Heaven. 5✨s
EDIT:
I mulled over this book last night and realized I didn't give this book enough credit for the awesomeness it is!
1. The Pilgrim's Progress is the second most popular book (after the Bible) and has never been out of print.
2. This book was written by a pastor while he was in prison for his faith in the late 1600s.
3. It is an allegory of the Bible, one that has inspired and impacted hundreds of thousands of people.
4. It incredibly illustrates a Christ follower's journey (a journey victorious only by the help of Jesus Christ) to eternity in Heaven with God.
5. It shows a faith-filled life is not one of ease but of hardship and toil, of putting oneself last and glorifying Another.
God truly used John Bunyan as a instrument of His grace in writing The Pilgrim's Progress. What an influential work!

a Christian classic worthy of its name. It painted the greatest journey every Christian will be walking on in our search for salvation using (fancy word I learned because of this book) allegories of faith. The book is definitely not easy to read and it rightfully deserve a slow and second read for me.
Very challenging language, even for old English, and a more devoutly Christian perspective than expected, but some words of wisdom all the same. "None throws away the Apple for the Core".
