A thief in debt to the Takers Guild takes a job he didn’t ask for, picks up a blind cat that just might be lucky, sails on a doomed whaling ship, gets shipwrecked, falls for a witch, meets a wizard, and fights alongside a warrior who summons a giant raven from her chest tattoo.

The Blacktongue Thief is gritty, funny, full of heart, snark, and swagger; the kind of fantasy that stumbles into danger, cracks a joke, and keeps bleeding forward.

If you like your adventure tales weird, sharp, and full of misfit energy, this one’s for you.

⭐️ 4/5– Would let this bastard steal from me again.

The was a surprisingly charming and funny, yet dark and chilling epic fantasy. I really hope that we get more of Kinch and I am excited to continue with The Daughter's War to hear more about the enigmatic and serious Galva's background.

A pleasure of a book. It really had everything I have been looking for in a fantasy story! A fun, yet dark story with a great ending twist. I reminded me of many things; first, Critical Role with their Mighty Nein adventure of campaign 3 -- guilds, high-seas adventures, witches in the woods, and so on. I also had a feeling I hadn't felt since a teenager, reading R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms Drizzt novels, dark, fun, but not taking itself too seriously. Meeting the wizard Fulvir immediately brought up Jack Vance's Dying Earth...come to think of it Kinch and his adventure reminds me a bit of Cugel and how he moved from one set-piece to another in The Eyes of the Overworld and Cugel's Saga. Listen, I always write my reviews on my phone as soon as I close the book, so forgive this unedited wall of text, but go read The Blacktongue Thief. I bought The Daughters' War when I was barely halfway through this one, I knew. I loved Between Two Fires and didn't see how people were saying this is better, but...it is? It's different...that was my favorite book of the year and this took over that throne. Anyways, read Christopher Buehlman.

The writing in this book just did not click with my brain. I'm not sure why, but I had to constantly re-read paragraphs, even chapters, because I kept getting completely lost in what was going on.
