This book was a slog to read. Unnecessarily dense with endless descriptions of the world and its history. While I normally enjoy worldbuilding this was just way overdone and both the plot and characters weren't interesting enough to warrant so much exposition.
The prose was difficult to read, since many words used were fictional slang. I found myself rereading passages a lot because I just did not comprehend what was written. But afterwards it almost always turned out it was a non-descript world detail that didn't really add to anything.
The plot didn't seem to go anywhere, and even at almost the halfway point there was still basically nothing made clear about where the main characters were actually going and why.
Too little narrative drive, and superfluous ramblings about everything and nothing. I might push through someday, but putting it down for now.

So. The concept, theory, and spirit of this book? Brilliant. Fun. Low commitment with high reward.
But honestly I really struggled to love this one! Primarily for two reasons. 1. I could have done without the investment required from me as a reader into the characters outside of the core crew. 2. And this is the main one. It was very difficult for me to follow along with the “stream of thinking” style writing with vernacular and a way of speaking that I just couldn’t catch.
I wanted to love this. But I just couldn’t given how hard it was for me to follow along and understand what was happening.

I liked kinch but didn't love him. Norrigal was nice but felt like she never really got a chance to speak. Could not care less about the rest of the characters. The world was great and I liked the prose. The story just kept meandering and it felt hard to care about any of it, and it some points it just felt like it was taking the piss with how many ridiculous things would happen in a row. Was really pushing to the end in the last 1/3 of the book. And I thought the final "fight" really sucked ass, with some asspull magic on both sides that left a sour taste in my mouth.
