A early 2000s horror movie in book form - complete with dumb college kids, a remote location, completely wacky and grotesque monsters out to get them. That ending! It made me want to rewatch Jeepers Creepers, The Ruins or House of Wax.
DNF
You ever watch a horror movie with characters that are so bad, you can't bear to even get to the parts where they're going to get ripped apart by monsters? Yeah, I'm sorry but that's this for me.

I'm not sure exactly what it is that's chasing them, but it's scary as all Hell.
Set in the snowy mountains of Colorado, siblings Jane and Ryan along with their friends and dog Oona spend one last weekend at their family’s cabin. The house is being sold and Ryan is heading off to Switzerland.
After a day of snowboarding the group wakes up the next day to being snowed in at the cabin. When secrets come out and tensions run high the group some members of the group want to just pack up and go home.
What the group doesn’t know is that there is something out in the woods watching and waiting. With a low food supply and more snow on the way the group needs to find a way to survive.
My Thoughts: I liked this one. I love the snowy cabin setting. I love locked room thrillers. It took a bit for me to get into but once I did I was ready to find out what happened next. Only thing I didn’t like was a certain character death. I wanted them to have a happy ending.
I liked how they had spooky interactions throughout the book leading up to the main characters discovering the monsters, but for whatever reason, I wasn’t sucked in to continue reading. The ending was spooky, and I never really got a good description of what the monsters looked like. It would be funny to have an epilogue where the owners of the cabin show up and find everything destroyed. I’ve read better, but I finished the book so 3.5/5

So characterization is a big thing for me. I have to enjoy SOMETHING a about the people I'm reading about, even if it is how absolutely horrible they are. There was none of that here. Ryan wasn't half bad and I did like Tara, but she was just a sidenote in this story
I did like the monsters, though. And Oona. If Oona and the monsters could have ridden off into the sunset and lived happily ever after, that would have redeemed this book.
