intense book filled with a lot of emotion ! the characters were all described so good and the whole book is so fast paced. really good overall, 4/5

This was just as good the second time as it was the first time I read it. I hope one day they make this into a movie and/or ALL of Ania's books into movies lol.

Ok.

This was an enjoyable read for the most part. However, I really didn’t care for the ending. And I don’t think the title fits the book.

DID NOT FINISH: 51%

I was bored. I have read this author’s other works and have enjoyed them, but this one could not grab my attention.

OH MY GOSH!!! I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since I finished it. This is a book out for a horror movie lover’s own heart.

I’ve been a fan of the video game, Until Dawn, for years and when I saw this book compared to it, I knew I had to pick it up. Between the snowed-in secluded cabin and the complicated relationships of this friend group, I can definitely see the comparisons and love both stories equally.

I have never been this scared reading a book before, and had to stop multiple times because I didn’t want anything to happen to these characters. The way Ahlborn developed them with rich histories and crafted the emotional tension in this book was absolute perfection. AND THE MONSTERS!!! I couldn’t get enough of them even though they scared the living daylights out of me. The kitchen scene completely freaked me out.

If you are any bit interested by terrifying stories of what lurks in the mountains and survival stories of friends fighting for their lives, pick The Shuddering up now. You won’t regret it.

there is too much fluff and unnecessary pages of banter in this
adventurous dark funny mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This is the first book I've read by this author and, although it is an easy read, it dragged on more than it should, while leaving the feeling that something is missing.
The main problem I found is that the characters were unintentionally cheesy and did not evolve through the book. I can point to a line that Ryan says as the moment I realised I did not like any of them and did not care for their survival. Frankly, the shorter vignettes at the beginning of the chapters in which strangers are attacked by the monsters are way more interesting than the main characters' story.
It seems that the author had an idea an started writing without really fleshing out the details. It feels rushed and uninspired.

Big Until Dawn vibes for those who played/liked the game

The creature feature story is great but the 5 friends so annoying. The book focused too much on the relationship drama and it clouded the entire story.
