No spoilers but I found myself reacting out loud to this book. It was incredible.

A very interesting and exciting plot. The only thing that really brought it down was the plotline regarding one character. Specifically, how the author seems to try to force the reader to hate this one character. It made the book very unlikeable, in my opinion. It was so heavy-handed and unnecessary. The character in question does nothing wrong except being a stranger to her boyfriend's friends. It seemed like on every other page there was a pov about how much they don't like said character but there was no good reason why. When in reality, that character had every right to her actions and feelings. That one aspect is the sole reason for the stars off.

Picked this up because BROTHER was my book of the year last year. This one was a disappointment after that. Good standard "stuck in a cabin" horror story, but nothing spectacular like BROTHER. Doesn't stick the landing, but it's fine. Good, not great, but would still read more Ania Ahlborn

Ryan has dragged his sister and friends out to their family's cabin for the last time. It's a reunion and a farewell, and the whole situation is awkward. It's only made worse by a snowstorm that traps them in the cabin, and the presence of creatures in the woods. They're fast. They're intelligent. They're hungry.

Thanks to everyone on #bookstagram who recommended this book, because it was the perfect spooky winter read. There's a sense throughout of just dread and hopelessness and genuinely not knowing if a single person will survive. Of course I wanted every single person to survive, because the author was able to make every single person 3D and sympathetic before letting monsters eat them. Not cool. But also, you know, super cool, and exactly what I was hoping this would be.

3.5/5. I didn't like most of the characters, and a lot of their interactions made them seem very immature. But there is some GREAT gore and monsters.

3.75. Predictable, annoying MC but lots of snowy gruesome mayhem.
