I’m going to go ahead and give this a 4-star rating. At any given point in the book it could have been a 3-5. Let me say this book was DREADFUL, like in a good way. Like i just felt DREAD and was so tense while reading. Great writing in that aspect for sure. The characters were all lovely but the relationships were not satisfactory. They all felt rushed and … confusing. I’m rating this a four because while parts of the “banter” had me rolling my eyes… the suspense and horror aspect were honestly top notch.

The human characters in this did nothing to maintain my sympathy. Only the dog was truly loveable. The creatures were pretty great though. I have to echo what some other reviewers have said, the standalone vignettes are better than the main storyline. Not a terrible book, it's definitely creepy in more than a few scenes. More a two and a half star read.
