I don't remember reading this as a child. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more as a little girl. As an adult, I thought the pictures were ok, but not particularly interesting, and sometimes the uneven rhyme scheme really distracted me. Not one of my favorites.
One of the pictures has 12 girls even though Madeline is in the hospital. Oh, and Madeline’s hair changes color. Some weird rhymes, but good. Also, if she’s still in the hospital it wouldn’t be a scar, but a freshly sewn cut, but that’s me being not picky.

What a cute book! If I ever go to France, I now have some locations to visit in the backdrops of all the illustrations here. I thought it was interesting to have the dramatic point of the story to center on Madeline's appendix getting taken out. It's nice, too, to see everyone's love for this book, but it's not one that I read growing up sadly. I would've been keen to that tiger line and probably would've used it in class. Dang. Missed opportunities. Oh well, maybe in the next life. For now, this book served its purpose in getting me closer to my reading goal this year hehe. 1 hour left till New Years!
Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans – A long beloved favorite. I work in a hospital, and I often want to put this book into adult hands. Sometimes we all need to channel our inner- Madeline! Happy Reading!
It's cute.
This is a picture book about Madeline and her appendicitis.
I'm a bit disappointed, because I've seen the movie and I was expecting a chapter book :-D
But - what ever. It's a good story and the illustrations are charming, and it would probably have been great when I was 5.

A short story,
That's sweet & fine,
What an adventure,
for Madeline!
The drawings are great,
All the way through,
And don't you wish,
you had appendicitis too?
:P

Madeline was a character that I resonated with throughout my childhood; we share a name and scars from appendicitis! The adventures of brave little Madeline and her companions, is timeless. The illustrations are themselves a beautiful story.
Those opening and closing lines are some of the most iconic lines for me. I was a fan of the animated show when it was on tv, I knew that Madeline was a book and had read it long ago. It was nice to just go back and see the familiar story once more of Madeline. A nostalgic read but who didn't love Madeline, she always had an interesting adventure of some sort.
I loved this book when I was little and I enjoyed the audiobook of it. It probably would’ve been better if I had the story to follow along with and see the pictures but it’s still great!
