Madeline forms one of the pillars of my childhood. I cannot explain my deep-rooted love for this story.

I was looking for a skirt at Kohl's and I found a display with classic children's books and accompanying dolls. I purchased both the book and doll of Madeline for $5 each. I bought these for my niece, who is only one, but I'm hoping to instill the love of reading very early. I am definitely going back to get my own Madeline doll.

This book was very sweet and short. I loved watching the television show as a girl and reading these books. Madeline is a feisty and cheeky little French girl who goes to a school with eleven other girls and is taught by a nun. They go all over France to visit the various landmarks and have adventures. It was simplistic, but it was a nice story. The watercolors were lovely and I know that my niece will enjoy it.

It was a very cute book, but not as good as I had remembered it as a child.

While other families were reading Goodnight Moon to their babies, we were reading Madeline to ours.
