I liked the sketchy illustrations, especially those of Parisian landmarks. I enjoyed the rhymes and the care Miss Clavel showed for Madeline.
adventurous
lighthearted
fast-paced
all the books y'all are abt to see are from my dumb ass playing catch up LMAO
Madeline is a classic for a good reason. I like reading it with my toddler daughter and she really enjoys it. it's fun to do bad french accents for the speaking voices and it has a nice rhythm for reading out loud.
I love the illustrations in this book a lot, especially the full color pages.
My only complaint is a couple of places I always stumble over the rhyme scheme.
would definitely recommend.

Caldecott Honor 1940 - I never read Madeline as a child. Not sure why but never did. And I don't think I really read it even when I was teaching preschool. So I guess I come to it with a new eye. Amazingly for something written in 1939, it actually seems more like a children's book than many of the other honor books from that time period.
Re-read this for the first time since I was the target demographic.
It was a cute story, but not as good as some of my other favorite picture books (oh hi, Lily's Purple Plastic Purse.) Just a little bland and basic, but I loved the illustrations. :)

I absolutely adored the tv series growing up so reading the books it was based on was a special dose of nostalgia. The artwork is truly gorgeous, which I loved. I can clearly see why it's a timeless classic.
The illustrations are amazing and I have always loved this book. My daughter is very "eh" about it.
I love this book which is why i have read it a "few" times.
You can't do nothing but love Madeline.
