I so loved Duke. I think he has become my new favorite. He was so grumpy but honestly you couldn't help but love him. He was a straight shooter and when he was annoyed you knew. And then he meets Mercy...and boy does he find at least one thing he not only likes but can honestly stand. Mercy was super smart and loyal. She was determined to protect James even if it cost her her life. I loved that she wanted to help. She wasn't a warrior by any means but you couldn't help but laugh with her. Her joy was contagious even is sometimes inappropriate. I loved that she lightened Duke up even as she accepted him as he was. Watching them together had me reading this story with a smile on my face. I am a fan of both Ms. Roth and this series. And with the addition of this spin-off, I look forward to more. You will not be disappointed by the fast paced story that is full of laughter and love.

This is a great book and really reminded me why I like the author’s writing style.

I really liked that the heroine Mercy was a strong, intelligent woman. She got involved in what turned into a nightmare situation but she was deeply committed to making things right.

The Immortal Ops universe is expansive and there is a lot to keep track of. The information nerd in me really wants to start a wiki to help keep track of characters, details, relationships, descriptions, etc. I appreciate the guide at the beginning of each book but so would love to have more info on the women as well.

As I was reading, I kept thinking that the heroine Mercy reminded me of a character from another book. I couldn’t quite remember who it was and then it hit me. She is a more book smart version of Marcy from the Grimm Cove books. Kind, genuine, a little wacky, very likable.

Another great installment in the series.

An excellent story, with a surprising number of editorial errors.

Meh
They tell the mystery suspense parts after the fact. Most of the story is about the wolf saving the woman who is his mate. All other characters are male. Apparently, no women allowed who aren't mates. Men can have friends, but women can't.

If this book hadn’t been funny I probably wouldn’t have finished it.

But it was funny, I really enjoyed it, and it’s free right now on kindle.

So what are you waiting for?

Anyways, Duke is our alpha male wolf who is part of a super secret paranormal military team. His interactions with his unit made the book for me. All the men on his team are shifters. One of their own has gone missing, and they receive intel to recover him.

Mercy is a scientist who discovers too late she’s working for an evil corporation. She is determined to free her test subjects, and her favorite test subject gives her contact info to free them. Unfortunately she forgot to give them the code that let them know she was on their side, so the unit thinks she is their main target.

Whoops.

The plot is straightforward, the romance is a “mate” situation, which isn’t alway my favorite but it does work here.

I just loved reading the guy pick on each other. One of the teammates who is a panther shifter got drunk and passed out in panther form. So what do they do? They take him to a zoo and throw him in the panther exhibit. So he wakes up hungover with a bunch of female panthers trying to make him their mate.

If you didn’t find that funny, you probably won’t like this book.

3.5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book! I just recently read the first Immortal Ops book by this author, and while I enjoyed it, it lacked story and character development. It was just too short to feel complete. This book, Act of Mercy, is what I wanted Immortal Ops to be. Act of Mercy still isn't a long book, but it's longer than what I would consider a novella. It's long enough for there to be decent story and character development.

Duke Marlow is a PSI Ops agent and an alpha wolf. He's grumpy most of the time; hates everything, especially technology. He's been alive for awhile and believes that if he was going to find his mate, he would have found her by now. Mercy is a doctor for a corporation that is secretly trying to make the perfect race. They are doing this by kidnapping paranormals, testing them, torturing them, and usually end up killing them. Unaware at first, Mercy soon discovers what is really going on. She befriends one of their "test subjects", Jimmy, and tries to save him and the others. Jimmy is a former agent and gives Mercy instructions and information on how to contact the PSI Ops.

Duke is a huge, dark, and sexy shifter (of course). I liked Duke as a hero even though he was a grump. I felt like toward the end of the book he was less of a grump than the beginning. Not because of Mercy, but kind of because his character seemed to change. Mercy is a forgetful nerd, a redhead, and apparently part pixie. As a heroine, I liked Mercy well enough. I did find her annoying at the very end of the book, but I seem to find all heroines annoying sometime during a story. Duke and Mercy are mates. For some reason Mercy doesn't want to accept that, even though Duke is "the perfect man". I don't get that. She was in denial even though she knew it was true. That was annoying. The chemistry between the H and h is hot and steamy. The secondary characters, the other PSI Ops agents, were great and likable. I can't wait to read their stories.

The story was great. The dialogue between the characters was fun and light. I really liked this book and would have rated it higher if it wasn't for the ending. For some reason I just felt like it was too rushed. It also felt a little disconnected from the flow of the story. I wanted maybe more or something a little different, I don't know. It's a series I'll continue with though!

I was surprised that I liked this one as much as I did.  It was short and sweet, but I liked getting to meet this new team that's connected to the IO original team.  I can tell that I'm going to love them just as much as I love the others.
