A fascinating historical romance.
I felt transported back to the time period of the book with Reid's writing. It was a bit confusing to start reading with the way the author writes it so faithful to the time period.
I loved the idea of the story, and I loved the characters. I knew it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but I didn't know it would have a disabled MMC.
I really like that the characters don't get into futile fights and that they are honest with each other all the time. And I like it even more because the duke is not a complete jerk, and I really enjoyed his personal development.
The humor in the story is perfect, and the construction of the characters' relationship is just as perfect. I loved spending time with them doing absolutely nothing, just living wickedly.
The fight that happened was expected, but I didn't get angry with anyone. I think it is consistent with the characters' fears. I especially like the way they resolve their problems. Kitty is wonderful.
The final chapter is super cute.
I probably won't continue the series since the other characters didn't captivate me as much, but Reid's writing is incredible!

Initially thought this was E/C fanfiction going into the first fifty or so pages, what with the half-mask and Beauty and the Beast allusions. Turns out, it's actually fanfic of Glokda and Ardee West from Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy.
Which did not detract from my enjoyment in the slightest, mind.

So so sweet.
“Whenever I dream of that day…I see the entire day, from the joy and laughter to the screams and agony, and for that reason…this nightmare I revisit so often is very precious to me.”
